# Viewer and review

> Play footage frame by frame, follow the transcript, and run your review process with timestamped comments, annotations, and replies.

## Open an asset

Click any asset to open it in the viewer. Videos and audio start playing immediately using fast streaming versions Aspect prepared during indexing - no waiting for a huge original file to load. Images render at full quality, and documents open page by page.

## Video playback

The viewer is built for frame-accurate review:

* Play and pause with <kbd>Space</kbd>, or use <kbd>J</kbd>, <kbd>K</kbd>, and <kbd>L</kbd> to shuttle backward, pause, and speed up - the same keys editors use in their NLE.
* Step through footage one frame at a time to land on the exact frame you want.
* Scrub the timeline to skim through a clip quickly.

## The transcript

For any video or audio file with speech, open the transcript tab to see everything that was said:

* The transcript highlights along with playback, so you can follow the dialogue as it plays.
* Click any word to jump the video to that exact moment.
* Search within the transcript and step through every hit.
* Export the transcript to a file if you need it outside Aspect.

## Comments

Review happens right on the asset. Anyone with comment access can join in.

### Comment on a moment

On videos, comments are tied to a timestamp - each one shows up at that point on the timeline, and clicking it jumps playback there. You can also comment on a time range to cover a whole section, not just a single frame.

On images, you can pin a comment to a specific spot in the frame. On documents, comments attach to a page, and you can highlight a passage of text and comment on it directly.

### Draw on the frame

Annotate exactly what you mean: sketch freehand, or drop arrows, lines, and boxes on the frame alongside your comment. No more "the thing in the top-left, no, the other one."

### Threads, mentions, and reactions

* **Reply** to a comment to keep the conversation in one thread.
* **Mention** a teammate with @ to pull them in - they get notified.
* **React** to a comment to acknowledge it without adding noise.
* **Attach files** to a comment, like a reference image or a corrected graphic.

### Resolve what's done

Mark a comment thread as resolved once it's handled. Resolved threads stay in the history, so nothing gets lost - and you can unresolve if the note comes back.

<Tip>
  Comments can be marked private, keeping them visible to your internal team only. Useful when clients and collaborators are looking at the same asset through a shared link.

## Downloading

You can download the untouched original of any asset - what Aspect plays in the browser is a streaming copy, but your source file is always preserved exactly as uploaded. Select multiple items or a whole directory to download them together, and track progress in the download panel.

<Note>
  Downloading requires download permission on the asset. See [People and permissions](/guides/people-and-permissions).
